Trying to do a reverse telephone number search on a cell phone can cause quite a problem, specifically if the number is needed urgently. This is because many cell numbers are not listed. While this can cause a problem when wanting a specific number urgently, it is not impossible.

The urgency factor can vary from needing to find out whose mystery number keeps coming up on your caller ID, to needing to find out the owner of a suspicious number on your spouse’s bill or phone.

There are many ways of finding the owner of a number. If it’s a landline then the best source is the White Pages; if it’s a cell number that is unlisted then you will have to dig deeper and probably use an online reverse telephone number search database.

Usually the reverse telephone number search is tricky; cell phone networks will not release cell phone information such as the ownership to public domains. This makes the search some what harder but not impossible. One way to do this is to use the internet. just put in the number along with the area code into the search box of your homepage; and see what happens!! It’s free and sometimes it works. Another way is to use a landline telephone booth and dial *67 before the number; but this is not foul proof as it can alert the ones calling with pranks or the spouse’s other caller and hence they could change the number leaving you in a mysterious fix.

There is another option that is relatively easier and less time consuming. Using a reverse cell phone directory; it’s not free it may require small fee anywhere from $10 - $35. This is due to the fact that these directories are online databases which have to be constantly updated as and when new phones are added.

Make sure you can check if the cell phone’s owner is in the database when using these directories for a reverse telephone number search.
