Previously we discussed how you start home business with your spouse. These are some additional strategies that will help you to be able to do this more effectively.

1. Schedule a weekly appointment to plan the upcoming week. During this appointment you should sit down as a couple and divvy out the tasks and responsibilities for the week. Monday morning is a great time, Friday afternoon works as well. The key is to make sure it is the same time each week so that the two of you will not forget the appointment.

2. Divide up tasks and responsibilities and write down which of you is responsible for completing each task that is necessary. One way you can do this is to have a huge white board in your home office. You can have a column for each spouse as well as other columns if you have employees. It is also a good idea to have a large calendar to schedule promotions, events and other day specific activities.

3. Track business and family appointments on a large calendar with various colors. One benefit to starting a home business is the ability to schedule business activities around family events and this will aid you in this task.

4. Take advantage of your strengths. Hire or outsource administrative work so that you and your spouse can focus on the activities that generate revenue. Have clear definitions as to which one of you employee?s work for, what they are to work on and reporting relationships and structures.

5. Make sure that before you start home business you know who is going to handle each household related task. The kids still need to be shuttled around. Someone still needs to cook and clean in your house. You will make things easier for your spouse and your children if you have any if these responsibilities are discussed in advance.

6. Develop a contingency plan that consists of what each of you work on in the business so that you will know how to proceed should one of you have to stop working. Think through how much it will cost to hire a replacement for one of you. Your business should be able to run without one of you if you plan properly.

Planning and thinking about these things in advance saves time, energy and money. Planning ahead of time makes it easier when you start home business.
